This book is a real treasure. I loved it when I was small, and rereading it has only added to my deep appreciation. When nine year old Wise Child's grandmother has passed away, Wise Child is adopted by the kind and firm Juniper, a Doran (solitary, decent magic user). It is heartwarming to watch Wise Child grow from someone irritable and spoiled to a mature and responsible person. Juniper's practicality, cheer and dry sense of humour is such a delight!What I love is that this book teaches tolerance and understanding (of Christians, non Christians, magical practitioners, people with disabilities and from all age groups and classes) without being preachy. We need more of that.This book would be well loved by almost anyone regardless of their age. A wise and insightful read. Timeless and unforgettable.

I remembered reading this book when I was around thirteen years old. On a whim I looked it up on Amazon, and to my surprise was able to find it. While this book is marketed toward young readers, it's still an excellent read for adults. It's not often I go back to a book I read when I was little and still enjoy it as much as I did previously. This book is worth the read, it will be going into my permanent collection.

One of my favorite all time YA books. I teach 9th graders and it is a yearly favorite among my young readers. Beautifully written, fascinating story, and a satisfying conclusion. I just wish the prequel, Juniper, was still in print because my old copy of it is getting super beat up.

My mom read this to me and my siblings multiple times during our home school years, and I have read it several times since. A life long favorite and one of the books that shaped my character and the choices I make as an adult. I love Juniper!

Re read this as an adult and it was fun to remember my 12 year old self going through the pages. It's a quick read with lots of interesting characters.

I simply loved this book, and could not put it down until I had finished it! The characters, the setting, were all vibrant and real to life although the story took place long ago. It is not dated or stilted for today's reader. I am reading up on children's lit for the upcoming school year. I will be teaching fifth grade. The children will love this novel. Very creative, original, and a good tale of good vs. evil. I plan to read "Jupiter", and I will hope that Ms. Furlong adds more to this incredible series!

This was one of my favorite books as a kid! Great and empowering story for young girls especially, but appropriate for all kids. Bought it as a gift for my 3 young cousins who are now 6, 8, and 9. Hoping to impose some feminist influence on them a little early.

This is an amazing book, and I would recommend it for young adults or anyone with a youthful attitude.
